Overview of Kwa Zulu Natal:

Kwa
Zulu Natal has an estimated population of 8.9 million,
with Durban an estimated population of 3.2 million (1996).
There are 11 official; languages, with English, Afrikaans,
Zulu and Xhosa are the most spoken.
Durban's
climate is an idyllic subtropical, which prevails throughout
the year. Inland areas are more temperate. Average winter
temperature is 18 Degrees Celsius. The warm Indian Ocean
sea water temperature is 17 degrees Celsius, enjoyed by
swimmers all year round.
The
region got its name in 1816, when the reigning chief -
King Shaka, named his Kingdom KwaZulu - the Place of
the People of Heaven.
The history and folklore of KZN can be experienced through
the many battlefields, cultural sites and tours, found
in KZN.
Durban
was bought from King Shaka for use as a trading post.
The original township layout was named D'Urban after the
then Cape of Good Hope Governor.
Durban
is now a megacity, encompassing some 2297 square kilometre's.
It has Africa's largest and busiest port (the 9th largest
in the world), which moves 33 000 000 tonnes annually.
